Public Health Ontario Webinar: Substance Use and Gender-Based Violence: Strategies and Resources

Every day, public health nurses and other professionals provide care to people experiencing gender-based violence (GBV) and using substances in ways that affect their health. This presentation will invite participants to deepen their knowledge about the intersections between GBV and substance use, and to make their practice more effective. A range of informational resources and tools will be shared to support trauma- and violence-informed, destigmatizing approaches to promoting substance use health in the context of GBV.

At the Educators Showcase, EQUIP provided an opportunity for health and mental health educators to discuss strategies and approaches to teaching about mental health, substance use health, and suicidality through a health equity lens.
The Educators Showcase was held twice in October 2023, to maximize opportunities for educators to participate, as part of the Knowledge Mobilization to Promote Mental Health and Substance Use Health of Those Most Affected by the COVID-19 Pandemic Project.
EQUIP Pathways Showcase: Promoting Equity and Substance Use Health

At the EQUIP Pathways Showcase, we presented the EQUIP Equity Action Kit developed through the Pathways Project. Pathways is a 2-year knowledge mobilization project to increase capacity to reduce stigma and discrimination in health care and social services.
The Action Kit includes strategies and resources for reducing substance use stigma and implementing equity-oriented, culturally safe and trauma-and-violence informed care.

At the EQUIP Emergency Showcase, we presented our findings from EQUIP Emergency and the EQUIP Equity Action Kit developed in collaboration with the EQUIP Pathways Project. EQUIP Emergency is a 5 year project looking at promoting health equity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Canadian Emergency Departments. The Action Kit includes strategies and resources for reducing substance use stigma and implementing equity-oriented, culturally safe and trauma-and-violence informed care.
