Educators Showcase: Bringing an Equity Lens to Teaching About Mental Wellness/Health, Substance Use Health, and Suicidality
At the Educators Showcase, EQUIP provided an opportunity for health and mental health educators to discuss strategies and approaches to teaching about mental health, substance use health, and suicidality through a health equity lens.

La pandémie de COVID-19 a considérablement affecté les besoins de santé des personnes utilisatrices de services. Cette attention particulière du public aux défis de la santé publique a remis de l’avant les enjeux entourant l’équité d’accès et de services dans le système de santé. C’est dans ce contexte que EQUIP Health Care a développé, en anglais, des outils accessibles permettant au personnel de la santé d’offrir des soins équitables et sensibles aux traumatismes et à la violence. Cette présentation sera l’occasion de présenter certains de ces outils disponibles en français et le processus d’adaptation au contexte québécois d’une première série d’outils portant spécifiquement sur la santé mentale et l’équité en santé. Ces ressources sont destinées à un public varié travaillant dans l’intervention en santé, ainsi qu’aux gestionnaires et à la population étudiante.

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically affected the health needs of people who use services. This heightened public attention to public health challenges has highlighted the issues of equity of access to healthcare in Canada. Against this backdrop, EQUIP Health Care has developed accessible tools to help healthcare providers offer equitable, trauma- and violence-informed care. This presentation will share some of these tools, available in French, and the process of adapting a first series of tools focusing specifically on mental health and health equity to the Quebec context. These resources are aimed at a wide range of people working in the health sector, as well as managers and students.
