EQUIP Health Care is hosting a webinar for the Emergency Services sector on March 4th, 2026!
Every day, the emergency services sector provides care to people experiencing gender-based violence (GBV) and using substances in ways that affect their health. This presentation will invite participants to deepen their knowledge about the intersections between GBV and substance use, and to make their practice more effective. A range of learning resources and practice tools will be shared to support trauma- and violence-informed, destigmatizing approaches to promoting substance use health in the context of GBV.
Presenters will include Dr. Patrick McLane, an Emergency Medicine Researcher from the University of Alberta.
Intended audience: Anyone working in the emergency services sector, including nurses, physicians, clinicians, unit clerks, managers, researchers and many more.
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Identify the key intersecting dynamics among gender-based violence, substance use, and stigma.
- Describe the impact of these dynamics on health and health care, and the implications for emergency services practice.
- Evaluate EQUIP’s evidence-informed tools and resources for their use in strengthening their practice and their organization’s approach, such as a substance use safety planning tool and a language resource.
